It's hard to imagine anyone but Gabourey Sidibe starring in "Precious" (based on the novel Push by Sapphire), but Jennifer Hudson has stated that she was offered the role, and turned it down. The "Dreamgirls" star's new book, entitled I Got This: How I Changed My Ways and Lost What Weighed Me Down, asserts just that.

Just the other day we were lamenting the dearth of "Cloud Atlas" previews, and suddenly -- like a belated Christmas present -- we've been handed promotional artwork that offers a few glimpses of the novel's Korean storyline. Very trippy and Blade Runner-y. Maybe for Valentine's Day we'll get an actual teaser trailer.

Obituaries are being posted for Cheetah, the chimp who played Tarzan's sidekick in the films of the '30s and '40s (based, lest we forget, on the tales by Edgar Rice Burroughs). However, this MetaFilter post alleges that there's no way the chimp is who keepers claim he is. I guess all we can say with any authority is: A monkey has died. Rest in peace, whoever you are!

Wishing a speedy recovery to Baz Luhrmann, who received a crack on the head while filming "The Great Gatsby," effectively halting the shoot for the time being. What is it about Australia? I seem to recall Cate Blanchett receiving a similar knock on the noggin when she was Down Under for a production of "A Streetcar Named Desire." If I ever make it to Australia, I'm not going anywhere without a helmet, antivenin, and a DVD of "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert."
