Here's a news flash that will temporarily restore your faith in humanity: It turns out that no one really wanted to see "Rock of Ages" or "That's My Boy" after all -- both films flopped hard over the weekend, allowing "Madagascar 3" and "Prometheus" to spend another weekend at the top of the charts. This is a major comeuppance for Adam Sandler, whose (universally loathed) 2011 film "Jack and Jill" bewilderingly made tons of money. Maybe we'll be granted a reprieve in 2013 while he goes to a special rehab for comics dependent on high-pitched character voices.
Speaking of "Prometheus" (and let's face it, everybody is), the website Racialicious has named Bolaji Badejo their "Crush of the Week." You may not think you know his work, but you do: He was the 7'2" person responsible for bringing Ridley Scott's "Alien" to life. Here's an interview with Badejo in which he recalls the grueling process of getting (and staying) in costume on the smoky, claustrophobic sets.
Pay attention when buying your movies on eBay -- what might seem to be an unusually cheap DVD could actually be just a DVD case backer card. In case a polite reminder's not enough, here is one merchant screaming his head off: "STOP! THIS IS NOT A DVD!" Whew, that was cathartic. And now I'm experiencing an odd craving to screen "Toy Story 3."
Here's a horse of a different color: illustrator Billy Nunez has created a version of L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz that appears to be set entirely in China (warning: requires you to accept a cowardly tiger in place of a cowardly lion). You can view the entire set right here on the artist's personal website.
