The Movies That Were Ahead of Their Time

Election season is hot for book sales ... well, certain books anyhow. This election heat map shows that "red" political titles are being devoured at a rate slightly faster than "blue" ones. Meanwhile, Barack Obama's The Audacity of Hope is drastically outselling Mitt Romney's No Apology: The Case for American Greatness.

There are certain titles that are just bound to pop up on a list of movies that were ahead of their time. This list not only includes obvious heavy hitters like "Jaws" and "2001: A Space Odyssey," it also pays homage to game-changing genre tweakers like "Office Space" and "Starship Troopers."

Jim Carrey is being sought for a role in the "Kick-Ass" sequel, and why not? He's no stranger to superhero films (remember, he played The Riddler in "Batman Forever").  This film is mainly a vehicle for its young stars -- will they be upstaged by the likes of Carrey and John Leguizamo?

What do you do with your '80s childhood nostalgia now that you're a grownup with lots of disposable income? Get a tattoo sleeve inspired by "The Neverending Story," of course. Bonus points for including Morla, the wise old turtle prophet, even though I personally wouldn't want to wake up to that face every morning.
