The theatrical trailer for “The Book Thief” hit the web today. The film is based on Markus Zusack’s best-selling novel, set in Nazi Germany, and narrated by Death. The story follows a young girl’s relationship with her foster parents, the residents in her neighborhood, and a Jewish fist-fighter who hides in her home during the escalation of World War II. The book gains it’s title from the central character, Liesel Meminger, who “steals” books from the mayor’s wife after befriending her, finding solace in the stories during her hellish reality.
French-Canadian actress Sophie Nélisse won the role after a worldwide search. Joining as her onscreen foster parents are seasoned professionals as Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson.
