We have a lot to look forward to this summer. Between “The Fault in Our Stars,” “The Giver,” and now “If I Stay,” it’s looking like this summer is going to be the summer of the (markedly dark) YA adaptation.
Based on a bestselling novel by Gayle Forman, “If I Stay” follows Mia (Chloë Grace Moretz), a seventeen-year-old musician prepping for her audition at Juilliard, in the aftermath following a car crash that leaves her in a coma and kills the rest of her family. We watch on as Mia, unconscious, decides whether or not her life is worth fighting for.
The film, adapted for the screen by Shauna Cross, is directed by R.J. Cutler (“The September Issue,” “Nashville”). Moretz, something of an adaptation darling, will also be seen in “Dark Places,” “The Equalizer,” and “Clouds of Sils Maria” this year.
“If I Stay” hits theaters August 22, 2014. Watch the trailer below for two minutes and thirty-three seconds of full-body chills.
